Gentle Giant

Gentle Giant

Photographer Albert Frangieh, circa 2010.

“Beto” was a great man who used to call me “Gentle Giant” or Gigante Gentil in Spanish (inside Joke referring a prog rock band from the 70s).

But to me he was the one with a gentle soul with giant talent and capacity to connect with his subjects. I learned a lot from him. He was not only my mentor but a dear friend, who taught me more about music than photography.

We would spend hours listening to music while editing film photos from the 80s from the era where “he was good but didn’t know it” like he liked to call those. Studying the work of the great artists and photographers from the past while listening to Led Zeppelin. Trying new papers and printing processes and learning about Carlos Nakai and Peter Gabriel.

I know it’s been a while since the last time I wrote here in my blog, but I needed a safe place to show my appreciation for him, a good riddance that I was not able to give because of the distance that separated us and his sudden passing.

Gracias Beto por la paciencia, la sabiduría, el arte y la amistad.
